Hello friends! We are back after two years without publishing any new music and we do it with style, counting with the help of our dearest musical brother and best friend Soni Artal (Santero y los Muchachos, Huerta Orleans Producciones).

ALBUM NOTES

In 1920 Mammie Smith recorded ¨Crazy Blues”, the first Blues ever recorded, and it turns 100 years, in the same decade of our XXI century. Lovers of this musical genre know already that the richness of recordings in those years was exceptional and the heritage for the artists of the future years was essential to the birth of many other music styles that, decade after decade, were evolving and transforming until our days; and this is, precisely, the essence of this album.

We have the deep Delta Blues of “Red hot chillin’ Blues” or the Ragtime feeling of “The death of ‘Thin’ Jimmy” evolving thru the sound of the 50’s with the pure Rock’n’Roll of “Goddamn Blues”’. The music takes us up and down the mountains with the pure Country rhythms of Hank Williams (also a disciple of the old Blues) in “I can dream again” and takes us for a drive through the southern landscapes of the old Route 66 in “Away from home” and “16 miles” until we reach the Pacific coast of California, to wait for the wave that will carry us away with “Waiting for the right wave”.

Undoubtedly 100 years of the birth of the Blues is something to celebrate. And let us not forget that the first purveyors of the Blues, men and women, gave birth to the music that we love in times of extreme hardships and they offered their songs to the world expecting nothing in exchange. And talking about hardships, this year of 2020 will be remembered for generations to come and we can say out loud that the music has been the main energy that has helped us to remain strong and positive. This album has been composed, arranged and recorded during times of confinement, lock downs and social unrest and it has helped us to keep our spark lit.

The album began to be projected on the second day of confinement in Spain, back in March, when we started to write the new songs for it and also to rescue old compositions that were waiting for the right time to see the light. When we had two songs “ready” we decided to send them to our dear friend Soni Artal and, to our very nice surprise, he decided to get involved in the project. He brought one of his songs, played several instruments and recorded and produced the album. The mastering has been made by Pepe Valero at New Rockers Studio. Nine months of working sending us files via WeTransfer, writing arrangements and shaping the tunes until we managed to visit Soni twice in nine months and we recorded all the necessary tracks in his studio.

And impossible to forget the awesome musicians that have participated in the album, Pau Garcia-Serra, Lluis Granell, Maria San and Luca Frasca.

PS: This record is dedicated to Matt’s dad, Dionisio Garcia, for his kindness, love and a life of example and to our children Dana, Jane, Pau, Laura, Nuno, Mikel and Lucas.

And also in loving memory of our most beloved friend and band member, Isidro “Isi Rockin” Cintas Bravo, who passed away suddenly at 54, leaving behind two loving kids. We will miss your spirit, your wit and talent and the pounding sound of your double bass. Luckily we had the music that you recorded with us and many great memories. Godspeed to you dear friend.

Estamos de vuelta tras un período de dos años sin publicar nueva música y lo hacemos junto a nuestro querido hermano musical y gran amigo Soni Artal (Santero y los Muchachos, Huerta Orleans Producciones).

NOTAS DEL ALBUM.

En 1920 Mammie Smith grabó el primer Blues, “Crazy Blues” y en este año de 2020 cumple 100 años. La riqueza y variedad de grabaciones de aquellos años fue excepcional y la herencia para artistas venideros fue esencial para el nacimiento de otros muchos estilos que, década tras década, fueron evolucionando hasta llegar a nuestros días. Y esta es precisamente la esencia de este disco.

Tenemos el profundo Delta Blues de "Red Hot Chillin Blues" y el feeling Ragtime de "The Death of "Thin" Jimmy" evolucionando hacia los sonidos de los años cincuenta con el Rock'n'Roll de "Goddamn Blues". La música nos lleva arriba y abajo de las montañas con los ritmos puros del Country de Hank Williams (quien también fue un discípulo del Blues) con "I Can Dream Again"y nos acompaña en un road-trip por carretera surcando los viejos trayectos y paisajes de la Ruta 66 original con "Away from Home" y "16 Miles" hasta que alcanzamos la costa pacífica de California para esperar a la ola adecuada que nos lleve lejos con "Waiting for the Right Wave".

Sin duda 100 años del nacimiento del Blues es algo digno de celebrar. No olvidemos que los primeros intérpretes de este género, hombres y mujeres, ofrecieron su música al mundo durante tiempos duros y difíciles, en muchas ocasiones sin esperar ninguna compensación por ello. Y hablando de tiempos duros, este año quedará registrado en los anales de la historia como un año fatídico para la humanidad y por ello podemos decir con seguridad que la música ha sido nuestra fuerza, compañera fiel y la chispa queha mantenido y mantiene viva nuestra llama. El disco comenzó a ser gestado en el segundo día del confinamiento en España, en marzo, cuando comenzamos a componer las nuevas canciones que lo componen y tambien a rescatar algunas composiciones que teníamos aparcadas, esperando la ocasión adecuada para ver la luz; el álbum contiene once temas, de los cuales diez son originales. Cuando tuvimos un par de canciones “listas” a nuestro juicio, decidimos enviárselas a Soni Artal para que nos diera su opinión, pero para nuestro gran placer decidió involucrarse en este trabajo, de manera que decidimos publicarlo como un trío junto a el, que también se ha encargado de la producción del disco. El trabajo de masterización ha sido obra de nuestro gran amigo Pepe Valero en New Rockers Studio.

Han sido nueve meses de colaboración a distanca, enviando pistas grabadas por WeTransfer, intercambiando arreglos y dándole a las canciones la forma definitiva que tienen hoy. Durante estos meses conseguimos hacerle un par de visitas de fin de semana a Soni en las cuales grabamos las tomas necesarias; hasta Inma se soltó la melena y puso segunda voz en una de las canciones y Soni se quedó encargado de producirlas y dejarlas listas para la masterización final, llevada a cabo por Pepe Valero en New Rockers Studio. Imposible olvidar a los excepcionales músicos que nos han acompañado en la grabación, Pau Garcia-Serra, Lluis Granell, Maria San y Luca Frasca.

Queremos rendir homenaje con este trabajo a todos aquellos artistas que se atrevieron a ofrecer su música al mundo. Este disco va dedicado al padre de Matt, Dionisio Garcia, por una vida de ejemplo y amor y a nuestros hijos Dana, Jane, Pau, Laura, Nuno, Mikel y Lucas.

Con una mención muy especial a la memoria de nuestro querido amigo y contrabajista excepcional, Isidro Cintas Bravo, fallecido repentinamente a los 54 años dejando dos hijos. Echamos de menos tu espíritu, tu humor y el sonido potente de tu contrabajo, descansa en paz Isi Rockin’, por fortuna nos queda la música creada y grabada junto a ti y miles de grandes recuerdos.
